Attawapiskat First Nation
The Attawapiskat first nations tribes populates the coast of James Bay. At first, the tribes lived more inland and used the area mainly for fishing and hunting, on the coast and on Akimiski Island. After several years, the Attawapiskat started to make more permanent settlement in the area and some on the island. Nowadays, the majority of the tribes population lives on the coast. Now, the tribe uses the island for more traditional uses like ceremonies.
